Blake Edward’s big-screen version of Truman Capote’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” begins with a gorgeous establishing shot of New York at dawn. The streets are eerily empty, with just a handful of cars and pedestrians dotting the concrete and glass landscape. A cab pulls into view, and out steps Holly Golightly, Capote’s party girl heroine. “American Graffiti,” the film that asks the question: “Where we you in ’62?” I was five-years old. I don’t remember where I was. So I left it to writer-director George Lucas to fill me in. I was sixteen years old when I first saw “American Graffiti.” Even though I spent my formative teen years in the seventies, I really identified with the music of the sixties. I don’t know. Maybe it was an unconscious cry to return to a simpler time. Whatever. I remember seeing “American Graffiti” for the first time at a drive-in.

I was way too young to appreciate “Gone with the Wind” the first time I saw it in a theater. All I knew was that it was long, and someone got mad and burned down a town. Ah, sweet, innocent memories of my youth. That was then, this is now, and after having watched “Gone with the Wind” for the first time in years, I have fallen in love with the film all over again.
