FEBRUARY 15:

Breakfast of Champions” starring Bruce Willis; “Entropy” starring Stephen Dorff and Lauren Holly; “In Too Deep” starring Omar Epps, L.L. Cool J and Nia Long; “The Lovers on The Bridge,” starring Juliette Binoche; and “Total Recall 2070” starring Michael Easton.

FEBRUARY 29:

Get Bruce!” starring Bruce Vilanch.

Columbia-TriStar Home Video will release the action-comedy “Blue Streak” starring Martin Lawrence on February 8, priced for rental. The film grossed more than $65 million in theaters and co-stars David Chappelle and Luke Wilson. One the same day the label will release the action-thriller “Absence of the Good” starring Stephen Baldwin. Rated R, the film is priced for rental. A week earlier the label will release David Mamet’s “The Winslow Boy.”

Hope you like the new look. Did some housecleaning. Dusted around the corners. Updated all of the web site sections. Now that the site is reaching a year-and-a-half on the web, I thought it was time to give it a new look. The lay-out is basically the same, but the graphics and themes are cleaner and easier to look at. Hopefully the text is also easier to read. Now that I’m done with the pleasantries, let’s take at look at the video news that has passed down the pike in the last month.

Disney’s animated summer release “Tarzan” will swing onto home video and DVD February 1. The video retails for $26.99, while the DVD retails for $34.99. A special edition of the “Tarzan” DVD will be released later, with commentaries, artists sketches, music videos and more….What goes better after Christmas dinner than pie? That is what Universal Studios Home Video is betting on as they release the box-office teen comedy “American Pie” on December 21. The studio plans to release both the “R” rated theatrical version, and a naughtier, “Unrated” version that they couldn’t get past the MPPA. Both version will be available at retail as part of Universal Studios Home Video’s “Get Lucky” promotion. The promotion includes the December 14 release of the acclaimed drama “The Red Violin,” plus the direct-to-video sequel “K-911,” starring James Belushi, available on video December 21. December 28 look for the slapstick comedy “Dudley Do-Right” starring Brendan Fraser as the absent-minded Canadian Mountie. Two weeks later, on January 11, the promotion continues with the release of “Mystery Men,” starring Ben Stiller and Geoffrey Rush, followed on January 18 by the hilarious comedy pairing of Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy in “Bowfinger.” The titles are tied into a consumer promotion awarding snowboarding trips …Also just in time for Christmas, Columbia-TriStar Home Video will rush-release the recent theatrical feature “The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland” on home video December 21, priced at $21.96. The title will streets on DVD day and date with the video, priced at $27.95. “Elmo in Grouchland” is rated G…The smart and sexy remake of “The Thomas Crown Affair” starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo arrives on home video and DVD January 4. The MGM Home Entertainment release grossed more than $70 million in theaters, and co-stars Denis Leary and Faye Dunaway….A week later, MGM Home Entertainment will release the stalled theatrical release “The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave.” Now making its debut directly on video and DVD, “Super Dave” stars Bob Einstein as the world’s most inept stuntman. The comedy is rated PG, and features Dan Hedaya, Gia Carides and Steve Van Wormer….

Sterling Home Entertainment will release the latest bit of film noir from notorious director Abel Ferrara, “New Rose Hotel,” on December 7, priced for rental. Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe and Annabella Sciorra star in the dark drama…Trimark Home Video has acquired the rights to the critically acclaimed and popular lesbian drama “Better Than Chocolate,” and will release it in an “R” rated and “Unrated” version on video December 28…..Rebecca DeMornay is back to her “Wicked Ways” in the R-Rated A-PIX Entertainment Video release, due December 14. Michael Rooker co-stars in the erotic thriller that will be released day and date on DVD….Proving that he’s a better basketball player than an actor, Dennis Rodman finds his latest theatrical offering “Simon Sez” almost going directly to video on Nov. 30 after an embarrassing theatrical debut. “Simon Sez” is available from Columbia-TriStar Home Video for rental…

One of the best films of 1999, “The Red Violin,” arrives on home video December 14 from Universal Studios Home Video. Universal acquired the highly acclaimed drama starring Samuel L. Jackson and an international cast from Lions Gate Film. Rated R, “The Red Violin” is being released as a rental…Animaniacs fans rejoice. Warner Home Video is releasing “Wakko’s Wish” on video December 21, just in time for gift giving. Collectible priced at $19.96, the feature runs 79 minutes and is not rated….It may only be November, but the “Taxman” is headed your way, courtesy of PM Entertainment. The action-thriller starring Joe Pantoliano, Elizabeth Berkley and Robert Townsend arrives on December 21….After grossing $25 million in theaters last fall, “The Wood” makes its way to home video on January 18, priced for rental. The comedy starring Omar Epps, Taye Diggs and Richard T. Jones is rated R….On January 25, Paramount Home Video will release “The Runaway Bride” on video and DVD, priced for rental. The on-screen reunion of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere grossed more than $140 million in theaters, and proved to be Roberts’ second $100 million+ release during the crowded summer months. Her romantic comedy “Notting Hill” starring Hugh Grant grossed more than $100 million….Paramount Home Video will also release the box office hit thriller “The General’s Daughter” on December 14. John Travolta and Madeline Stowe star in the provocative military thriller that grossed more than $100 million in theaters. The title will be available day and date on DVD…

Testing the potential of DVD, New Line Home Video will release the teen comedy “Detroit Rock City” on DVD three weeks before they release it on video for rental. The DVD, which features all sorts of extras including a multi-angle concert performance by the band KISS, will be released on December 21, and retail for $24.95. The Video will be released three weeks later on January 11…New Line will release the hysterical comedy “Drop Dead Gorgeous” on video December 14, day and date with the DVD. The beauty pageant comedy starring Kristen Dunst, Denise Richards, Ellen Barkin and Kirstie Alley is rated R, and grossed more than $10 million in theaters…Foreign film fans get a real treat on December 21 when Columbia-TriStar Home Video releases the German art house favorite, “Run Lola Run.” The action film has grossed more than $6 million in theaters during its limited run, and will be released at rental…In and out of theaters almost as fast as his recent direct-to-video efforts, “Universal Solider: The Return,” starring Jean-Claude Van Damme arrives on home video December 28 from Columbia-TriStar Home Video. The R-rated action sequel will be supported by the release of the quirky drama “Desert Blue,” starring Brendan Sexton III, Kate Hudson, John Heard, Sara Gilbert and Christina Ricci….Columbia-TriStar wants everyone to have a little “Dick” for the holiday season, releasing the hilarious comedy starring Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams on December 14, priced for rental. The nostalgic comedy finds the two girls becoming the official White House dog walkers for Richard Nixon. Great soundtrack and spoof of the whole Watergate experience. Rated PG-13…

Warner Home Video has collected five titles for their current winter promotion, including the theatrical releases “Deep Blue Sea,” due December 7, Henry Jaglom’s “Deja Vu,” due on December 14, and “Mickey Blue Eyes,” the gangster-comedy starring Hugh Grant, due December 28. The collection also includes the made-for-cable films, “The Hunley,” starring Armand Assante and Donald Sutherland, due Dec. 14, and “You Know My Name,” starring Sam Elliott and Arliss Howard. All titles are being released at rental…Columbia-TriStar Home Video will release the made-for-cable action film “Storm Catcher,” starring Dolph Lundgren, on video January 4, priced for rental. On the same day they will release the Hollywood comedy “Tinsletown“…Kevin Bacon becomes hypnotized and then starts to see dead people in the Artisan Home Entertainment thriller “Stir of Echoes,” due February 1. The R-rated thriller grossed more than $20 million in theaters…On January 18, Artisan Home Entertainment will release the recent made-for-cable movie “Animal Farm” on video and DVD. The video retails for $14.98, while the DVD retails for $19.98. On the same date look for John Turturro’s comedy-drama “Illuminata,” starring Katherine Borowitz, Beverly D’Angelo, Ben Gazzara, Susan Sarandon, Rufus Sewell, and Christopher Walken. The R-rated comedy-drama recently played limited engagements in theaters….

OCTOBER 18

DISNEY’S JANUARY LINE-UP…

After sitting on a shelf for over a year and a short release in theater in August, Touchstone Home Video will release “The 13th Warrior” on video and DVD January 18. Antonio Banderas stars in the action-adventure directed by John McTiernan from the best-selling novel “Eaters of the Dead” by Michael Crichton. January 18 will also see the release of “An Ideal Husband” from Miramax Home Entertainment. The romantic comedy stars Rupert Evertt, Minnie Driver, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and Jeremy Northam. The prequel to “From Dusk Till Dawn” entitled “From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter,” arrives on January 18 from Dimension Home Video. P. J. Pesce directs the prequel set in the old West and starring Michael Parks, Rebecca Gayheart, Danny Trejo, Sonia Braga, Marco Leonardi and Ara Celi. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez serve as executive producers. I’m expecting a screener any moment, so expect the first on-line review here. A week later, Miramax Home Entertainment will release “My Son The Fanatic” starring Rachel Griffiths and Stellan Skarsgard. The romantic drama has been rated R. Also part of the release schedule but bypassing DVD are “Warren Miller’s The Fifty,” “My Life So Far,” starring Colin Firth, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Irene Jacob and Malcolm McDowell, and “Woman Wanted,” starring Holly Hunter, Keifer Sutherland (who also directed) and Michael Moriarty, due January 25. On January 18, look for the video releases of two made-for-television features, “Goldrush: A Real Life Alaskan Adventure,” and “Safety Patrol,” starring Leslie Nielsen.

ALL THE NEWS THAT’S FIT TO PRINT…

Walt Disney Home Video and their subsidiaries have announced their December rental releases. On December 21, look for Spike Lee’s “Summer of Sam,” available for rental and on DVD for purchase from Touchstone Home Video. The charming romantic comedy “The Very Thought of You” starring Joseph Fiennes and Monica Potter arrives on December 14 from Miramax Home Entertainment. Michelle Yeoh returns in the super-charged action film “Supercop 2,” due December 21 from Dimension Home Video. December 14 will also see the release of the musical drama “The Harmonist,” a widely acclaimed Miramax Home Entertainment release. Two made-for-television movies make their debut on the Walt Disney Home Video label. Due December 14 are “Tower of Terror,” starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst, and “A Knight in Camelot,” starring Whoopi Goldberg…..Universal Studios Home Video will re-release two comedies featuring Andy Kaufman. Anticipating increased interest due to the new Jim Carrey film “Man on the Moon,” Universal will release “Heartbeeps,” co-starring Bernadette Peters, and “In God We Trust,” a Marty Feldman comedy with Kaufman as Armageddon T. Thunderbird. Both titles are due November 9, priced for sell-through at $14.98….Dreamworks Home Entertainment has picked November 23 as the release date for two of their high profile summer releases. Due for rental are “The Haunting,” starring Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a remake of Shirley Jackson’s original thriller, and “The Love Letter,” a screwball romantic comedy starring Kate Capshaw, Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Selleck. Both titles have been rated PG-13, and will be available for sell on DVD day and date…Sterling Home Entertainment has set October 19 for the video release of “Free Money,” a quirky crime caper starring Marlon Brando, Charles Sheen and Donald Sutherland. The R-rated feature is available for rental on video and for sell on DVD….Bruce Payne picks up where Julian Sands left off in “Warlock III: The End of Innocence,” the latest direct-to-video sequel from Trimark Home Video. Rated R, the video is due November 12 on video and DVD….Dolph Lundgren is featured in the action-thriller “Bridge of Dragons,” due November 16 from HBO Home Video. Rated R, the film recently played on the cable network. Available day and date on DVD….Paramount Home Video will serve up a trio of made-for-cable thrillers in October. Due October 12 is “I Married A Monster,” starring Susan Walters and Richard Burgi, followed by “Alien Cargo” on October 19. Finally, look for “The Darwin Conspiracy,” starring Jason Brooks and Kevin Tighe on October 26. All three titles are priced for rental…New Horizons Home Video unleashes two made-for-cable action films on video in October. Jeff Fahey and Richard Tyson find themselves “Beneath the Bermuda Triangle” on October 19, while James Remar and Corey Feldman are “Born Bad,” due October 26….George C. Scott’s last role was in the made-for-cable remake of “Inherit the Wind.” MGM Home Entertainment will release the Emmy-nominated film co-starring Jack Lemmon and Beau Bridges on November 16, priced for rental. A week later, MGM Home Entertainment will release the cable remake of “That Championship Season,” co-starring and directed by Paul Sorvino. Rated R, the film has been priced for rental. MGM has slotted the critically acclaimed drama “Tea with Mussolini” for release on November 16, priced for rental. Cher, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright, Maggie Smith and Lily Tomlin star in director Franco Zeffirelli’s poignant drama…After being falsely convicted of a crime they didn’t commit, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence find themselves serving a “Life” sentence. “Life,” which grossed $70 million in theaters, will arrive on October 19 from Universal Studios Home Video, priced for rental….Trimark Home Video goes fishing on November 9 with the release of the thriller “Shark Attack,” starring Casper Van Dien and Ernie Hudson. Rated R, “Shark Attack” recently played on cable and has been priced for rental….Christian Bale and Emily Watson find their marriage threatened when his best friend tries to help him escape from “Metroland,” due October 19 from Universal Studios Home. The drama has been rated R, and has been priced for rental….The greatest hero ever assembled, “Inspector Gadget,” leaps from the big screen to video on December, priced for sell-through at $24.99. Matthew Broderick plays the assembled super hero in the PG-rated comedy based on the popular cartoon. The film has grossed almost $100 million since its release this summer. Due on DVD day and date from Walt Disney Home Video….The offbeat love story “Among Giants” comes to video on October 19 from 20th Century Fox Home Video. Christopher Lambert plays a police detective tracking down a serial killer in “Resurrection,” while tough female cop Gina Gershon finds herself saddled with a rookie partner and a vicious serial killer on the loose in “Black & White“. Both films are rated R, and have been priced for rental…Trimark Home Video will release two more editions in their newly acquired “Saturday Night Live” franchise. “The Best of Adam Sandler” and “The Best of Eddie Murphy” will be available October 26, priced at $14.99 each….Deon Richmond and Maia Campbell find themselves “Trippin’” in the comedy due December 7 from USA Home Entertainment. So much territory to cover, so enough with the cover letter….Two recent independent films that have garnered acclaimed are headed to home video. Roger Ebert gave Thumps Up to “Just a Little Harmless Sex,” the romantic comedy starring Alison Eastwood and Jonathan Silverman, due October 12. Joan Chen’s debut as a director, “Xiu Xiu The Sent Down Girl,” which was banned from her native homeland, arrived on video October 19. Both titles are rated R and have been priced for rental…Artisan Entertainment will release the mega-hit horror film “The Blair Witch Project” on video and DVD October 26, just in time for Halloween. The sell-through title retails for $22.95…..Matthew Broderick is back in school, this time as the teacher in the hilarious comedy “Election,” co-starring Reese Witherspoon. The black comedy is due on video October 19. Rated R, it has been priced for rental…Columbia-TriStar Home Video will release their first CGI direct-to-video effort called “The Nuttiest Nutcracker” on October 19, priced at $14.95. The computer animated title features the voice talent of Phyllis Diller, Jim Belushi and Cheech Marin…..Warner Home Video will release the recent theatrical comedy “Lost & Found” starring David Spade and Sophie Marceau on video October 5, priced for rental. On October 12, Warner Home Video will release the comedy-thriller “Goodbye Lover” starring Dermot Mulroney, Ellen DeGeneres, Rosanna Arquette, Don Johnson and Mary-Louise Parker. Rated R, the title is available at rental…Sterling Home Entertainment has two new features headed to video. On October 5, look for the thriller “Modern Vampires” starring Casper Van Dien and Natasha Gregson Wagner, followed by the action-thriller “Free Money,” starring Marlon Brando, Charles Sheen, Thomas Haden Church, and Donald Sutherland. Both titles are available at rental. Ratings are pending….The revenge thriller “Bitter Sweet” arrives October 19 from Pioneer. Angie Everhart and James Russo star in the R-Rated direct-to-video, priced for rental….Columbia-TriStar Home Video will unveil the recent theatrical thriller “Arlington Road” on DVD October 26, priced for rental. The film stars Jeff Bridges as a professor who suspects that his neighbor Tim Robbins might be a terrorist. On the same date look for the romantic drama “Hideous Kinky” starring Kate Winslet, and the drama “The Velocity of Gary,” starring Thomas Jane, Vincent D’Onofrio and Salma Hayek. All three titles are rated R….Full Moon Releasing will unleash three new Direct-to-Video titles on September 28, including “Teen Sorcery,” “Totem,” and the adult-oriented “Shandra: The Jungle Girl“…Dreamworks Home Entertainment will re-release “Saving Private Ryan” at sell-through on November 2. Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film carried a suggested retail price of $14.98, with a MAP of $15.95….Trimark Home Video continues their successful “Warlock” series with the latest installment, “Warlock III: The End of Innocence.” Bruce Payne takes over where Julian Sands left off in this DTV, priced for rental and rated R….Artisan will release the critically acclaimed independent film “Frogs for Snakes” on video October 26. The comedy-thriller stars Barbara Hershey, Harry Hamlin, John Leguizamo, Ian Hart, Robbie Coltrane and Lisa Marie…..Mac Davis is the star of the underdog comedy “Possums,” arriving on home video October 26 from Monarch Home Video….First Look Pictures has chosen November 2 as their launch date for three new independent features on home video. The film festival and art house favorites include “Stand-Ins,” starring Daphne Zuniga, Costas Mandylor, and Jordan Ladd. The drama is unrated. On the same date, look for “Slaves to the Underground,” an official Sundance Film festival selection that is rated R and received a theatrical release in over 20 markets. Also on the slate is “Alive & Kicking,” starring Jason Flemyng of “The Red Violin.” The love story has been rated R, and received a theatrical release in over 30 markets….Jean Claude Van-Damme arrives in yet another direct-to-video effort. He stars in the revenge flick “Desert Heat,” due on video September 28 from Columbia-TriStar Home Video. The R-rated effort co-stars Pat Morita….

BREAK UP Available November 9, the psychological thriller stars Bridget Fonda, Kiefer Sutherland, Penelope Ann Miller and Steven Weber. The title has been rated R.

HEAVEN Martin Donovan and Joanna Going star in this edgy thriller that premieres on home video and DVD November 9. The title has been rated R.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL The Oscar-winning foreign film arrives November 9 (after a delayed start) on video and DVD, and has been rated PG-13.

INSTINCT Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding Jr. star in this action thriller, due November 16 on video and DVD. Rated R.

THE CASTLE Michael Caton heads up an excellent cast in this darling Australian comedy, due on video and DVD November 16. Rated R.

ROGUE TRADER Ewan McGregor stars in this made-for-cable drama, due on video (sorry, no DVD) on November 16. The title has not yet been rated.

MIRAMAX TAKES A WALK ON THE MOON

Walt Disney Home Video and all of their subsidiaries have announced their October rental titles. The collection kicks off with the latest Warren Miller ski extravaganza, “Learn to Ski Better 2,” due on October 12. On the same date look for the comedy hit “10 Things I Hate About You.” A week later on October 19, Dimension Home Video will release the latest entry into the “Children of the Corn” series, “666: Isaac’s Return.” Miramax Home Entertainment will round out the line-up on October 19 with the release of “A Walk on the Moon” and David Cronenberg’s “eXistenZ.” Except for the Warren Miller video, all four titles will also be available day-and-date on DVD.

COLUMBIA-TRISTAR UNLOCKS THIRTEENTH FLOOR

Columbia-TriStar Home Video will release the recent sci-fi thriller “The Thirteenth Floor” on video and DVD September 21. The film stars Craig Bierko, Gretchen Mol and Vincent D’Onofrio and has been rated R. On the same day Columbia-TriStar will also release “This is My Father,” a family affair written and directed by Paul Quinn and starring his brother Aidan. The film also stars James Caan, Stephen Rea and John Cusack. Rounding out the September 21 line-up is the cable thriller “Judas Kiss,” starring Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Gil Bellows, Carla Gugino and Til Schweiger. All three titles are rated R and have been priced for rental.

BRIEFLY NOTED…

HBO Home Video will release the critically acclaimed drama “A Lesson Before Dying” on video September 21, priced for rental. Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson and Mekhi Phifer star in the PG-13 rated film….Trimark Home Video will release the urban drama “Raising The Heights” on August 24, priced for rental. The film has been rated R and features a Hip Hop soundtrack. Dutton and Patricia Neal star in the PG-13 rated comedy with a southern flavor….Walt Disney Home Video has scheduled two sell-through releases for September 21. First on tap is the live-action comedy “My Favorite Martian,” starring Jeff Daniels and Christopher Lloyd, and “Doug’s First Movie,” the animated big screen adventures of the popular kid’s television show. Both titles retail for $22.99 each, and come with $5 rebates with additional purchases….PM Entertainment will release the crime thriller “When Justice Fails” on August 24. The film stars Jeff Fahey and Marlee Matlin and has been priced for rental. The DVD will arrive day and date….Paramount Home Video will release three made-for-cable films on video in September. First on tap is “Inferno,” starring James Remar and slated for release on September 7. A week later on September 14 look for “A Face to Kill For,” starring Crystal Bernard and Doug Savant. Finally, “The Defenders: Taking the First” arrives on September 21.
