Cube

If you don’t like cube steak, then you’re going to hate the first five minutes of “Cube.” Hold on to your seats (and lunch) as a man wakes up in a strange cubicle, with exits on all four walls. He doesn’t know how he got there, but he does know if he’s going to survive, he’s going to have to find a way out. Read the rest of this entry »

Crush

Andie McDowell is charming as an American headmistress at a British school, whose romance with a former student hammers a wedge between her best friends. McDowell shines as Kate, who gets together every week with her best friends (Anna Chancellor, Imelda Staunton) for a little smoke, a little drink, and a little gossip. Okay, a lot of all three. Small Soldiers

Unfortunately, the film seems to strike a chord with 13 year old boys, which in most parts of the country, is one year too old to qualify for the child admission. Read the rest of this entry »

Queen Of The Damned

My mother always told me that if you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.

My mother didn’t see “Queen of the Damned,” another MTV-influenced horror film shot and edited for people with the attention span of a music video. Take away the eye candy and rock music and what’s left is a vampire film that is sorely in need of a transfusion. Read the rest of this entry »

Stealth

Summer and popcorn movies go hand in hand. Popcorn movies aren’t a bad thing, unless the filmmakers pee in your popcorn. Nothing is worse than soggy, rancid popcorn passing itself off as the real thing. Read the rest of this entry »

Anchorman

As someone who experienced rather than lived through the seventies, it was difficult to see the proverbial forest from the trees. At the time, I didn’t realize that the music I loved, the clothes I wore, the films I rushed out to see and the television shows I stayed home to watch were lame.

Memento DVD

Memory can be a tricky thing. Just ask Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce). The victim of a vicious attack, Shelby has lost his short term memory. He has no problem remembering events before the attack, but can’t tell you what happened ten minutes ago. That means every time Shelby goes to sleep, he wakes up a stranger in a strange land.
